Things I like about the new season of Enterprise:
Gunfights/Marines.
Darker overtone.
T'pal's new clothes.
T'pal's continuing lack of clothes.

Things I really don't like about the new season of Enterprise:
The fucking theme song.
The continuing lack of character development.
The way they are trying to make it an interpretation of the events of 9/11 and ensuing chaos. The U.S. is NOT THE WORLD and needs to shut the fuck up and leave my god damned Trek ALONE.

Original Trek had the excuse of being in an age where racism and sexism and blatant U.S. flagwaving was common and expected. Afterall, it wasn't all that long after they won WW2 singlehandedly. Gene wanted to have a lot of themes of equality and freedom but was still constrained by the common perceptions of the time. Back then it was incredibly groundbreaking.

TNG was excellent because it broadened the horrizons to encompass all of humankind on one ship, fighting for Earth as a whole and being DIPLOMATIC about it. There was political intrigue spattered between some random space accidents, and a lot of episodes where the bad guys were really just guys fighting for THEIR way of life and weren't so bad afterall.

DS9 was the pinnacle of Trek. They had so many different situations, appealing to so many different walks of life, religions, even homosexuality. They even took Trek to all out war and dealt with the implications of the fucked up Human psyche. It was about humans, human politics, human psychology - all done via sci fi. They got away with SO MUCH when other shows couldn't even get on the air.

I won't even get STARTED on Voyager.

Enterprise is a return to old Trek. Made by Americans, for Americans. When they aren't saving a planet from the 'terrors' of its natural leaders, or liberating prisoners who BROKE THE DECLARED LAWS of a society, they are telling stories of how their society was unfairly attacked by evil and malicious forces and then go on an instant retrobutive rampage without all the facts. They refuse to listen to reason and then get indignant when others don't jump to help them. They are enraged when someone uses an unfair attack against them, yet they are first in line to develop new weapons and covert tactics in order to fight back with the same brutality.

But it feeds my bitterness the same as CNN does, so I won't stop watching it anymore than I stopped watching Voyager. Plus Enterprise has T&A.
